I had called A Plus out to repair my air conditioning unit after several days of the unit intermittently operating. The first tech that came out said that the breaker to the condensing unit was tripped. He reset the breaker, checked the pressures from the unit and left. they charged me $69.00. The unit functioned for about two hours and shut down and would not work any more. I then called them back and they sent another tech. This time the tech said that the thermostat wire was not installed correctly and they put a .30c piece of pvc over it and taped it up with electrical tape, checked the pressures and left. They charged me $101.50. Well after all that the unit functioned for about a week and would not work any more. I then put a call in to a friend of mine who has been doing air conditioning work for 25 years. I described the problem I was having to him and he said he would come out to my house and check it. After driving 300 miles, he looked at it for about a minute and had it working again. He took a meter and measured one voltage and replaced a delay board at a cost of $40.00 and I have had no problems with it since. I had my friend call A Plus and ask them why they would charge me a total of $170.50 and still not fix the unit. Their response to that question was that they had spent time on this unit and the only thing that they were willing to do was to knock off the price of a $10.00 USED delay board that they took out of another unit that they were charging me $40.00 for. I will NEVER use this company again and suggest that anyone who needs A/C work never call them either... The voltage measurement that my friend took should have been one of the first things that the tech should have checked, however did not. He could have known about the defective delay board during the first service call if he had only stopped to take this one small measurement and saved me the price of another service call. I believe that they should have knocked off the price of the second service call and thrown in the $10.00 used part. Fair is fair.. and they did not play fair.
